Law Center comments on PA budget proposals

As lawmakers deliberate on Pennsylvania’s budget, Governor Corbett continues to place politics over the well-being of Philadelphia’s children. Law Center staff attorney Michael Churchill responds to the Governor’s current budget proposal:

“There can be no doubt that Governor Corbett is placing politics above Philadelphia children’s well-being when he refuses to support a local cigarette tax for the City schools unless he gets Democratic votes on other matters. Corbett’s own School Reform Commission appointees have told him lay-offs will result, class sizes will grow to 40, and 140,000 students will face unsafe and inadequate schools unless the District receives more funding than current budget proposals provide. He doesn’t appear to care about Philadelphia’s children, and his actions here make the allegations that he put politics ahead of children’s well-being in the Sandusky case appear credible.”
