Texas and DOJ Battle over Voter ID Law

The state of Texas and the Department of Justice are currently embroiled in a legal dispute over the state’s desire to implement a Voter ID law that some call one of the most restrictive in the country.

The state must prove that the bill, which the DOJ blocked late last year, will not have the effect of denying minority citizens the right to vote. The DOJ has presented evidence showing that black and Hispanic voters in Texas lack state ID in disproportionately rates.
