What we do
The Law Center uses legal strategies that enhance the integrity of elections by protecting every citizen’s right to vote, promoting a more engaged and informed electorate, and ensuring that every vote is counted as cast. Through policy research, education, advocacy and litigation, the Law Center works to empower Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens and to ensure that elections truly reflect the will of all the people.
In addition to our proactive coalition work, we continue to litigate on behalf of communities that experience discrimination and disenfranchisement. Here is what we are currently working on:
Keystone Votes: the coalition for modern voting
Pennsylvania’s election system is broken. Though all citizens of age have the right to vote, many still face obstacles that prevent them from exercising that right – particularly those in low-income communities, people with disabilities, and racial and ethnic minorities. The Public Interest Law Center is a member of the Keystone Votes coalition, which believes that it is time to update Pennsylvania’s voting system to make it easier and more convenient for citizens to cast their ballots, including those who already vote regularly.
